11 Companies Awarded National Workplace Learning Certification

National Centre of Excellence for Workplace Learning (NACE) led by Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) forms International Workplace Learning Alliance with global organisations to deepen workplace learning capabilities

Eleven companies received the National Workplace Learning Certification at the third annual Workplace Learning Conference today from Guest-of-Honour, Minister of State (MOS) for Education, Ms Gan Siow Huang. MOS Gan also delivered an opening speech.

The certification, first launched in 2021 as a joint initiative with the Singaporean-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce, serves as a testament to the awarded companies’ dedication towards advocating and fostering continual learning at the workplace.

This year, a total of two Platinum, four Gold and five Silver awards were awarded to 11 winners from a diverse range of industries, including aviation, construction, healthcare and landscaping. The full list of award recipients is available in Annex A. A total of 30 companies have been certified to date.

The Workplace Learning Conference was organised by the National Centre of Excellence for Workplace Learning (NACE) led by Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP), and supported by SkillsFuture Singapore.

With the theme ‘Harnessing Local and Global Partnerships for Workplace Learning Excellence’, the conference included seminars by international guest speakers from NACE’s industry partners in Switzerland, Japan and Germany. They explored topics on bridging education and the workforce, building a cross-industry model for workforce readiness and examining how new technologies are reshaping job qualifications.

“Workplace learning is a critical differentiator in business operations. By investing in workplace learning, organisations continue to grow their excellence in workplace training while staying nimble, ensuring an increase in productivity and positive business outcomes. We hope the award-winning companies will inspire more businesses to integrate learning into their core strategy and future-proof their operations,” said Mr Tan Jek Min, Director of NACE led by NYP.

“At Singapore Airlines, we have a culture of continuous learning. Our people are our greatest asset, and we will continue to invest in their development to ensure SIA remains competitive, resilient, and future-ready,” said Ms Vanessa Ng, Senior Vice-President of Human Resources at Singapore Airlines Limited, one of the two awardees of the Platinum WpL Organisation of Excellence certification.

Synergising with global organisations to promote workplace learning

NACE led by NYP also announced the formation of the Alliance of Workplace Learning Expert Organisations, connecting experts from Japan, Switzerland, Germany, and Singapore. The commemoration of the alliance was witnessed by MOS Gan. This alliance will facilitate collaboration on training programmes, resource sharing, and joint research to elevate workplace learning standards globally. Alliance members include the Swiss Federal University for Vocational Education and Training, the IHK Exportakademie GmbH, and the International Professional University of Technology in Tokyo.

The next overseas learning trip, scheduled for April 2025, will see about 24 industry participants from Singapore visiting companies in Japan to understand the best practices in workplace learning and skills development.

"By connecting local companies with global leaders, we hope to foster a collaborative exchange of knowledge through sharing insights and best practices to enhance workplace learning to help businesses navigate an ever-changing landscape and create meaningful impact across industries." added Mr Tan.

New programmes for C-suites and managers

NACE will also introduce two new workplace learning programmes in January 2025 to empower business leaders.

The first, ‘Leading the Future of Workplace Learning: Insights from the National Workplace Learning Certification, is a programme tailored for C-suite executives and will focus on long-term strategies for creating sustainable learning cultures. The second, ‘Building a Culture of Learning: Best Practices and Actionable Strategies for Managers’, is designed for middle management and will offer practical tools to optimise workplace learning processes.

Both programmes will leverage insights and best practices from NWpL-certified companies, providing actionable strategies to cultivate continuous improvement cultures in the workplace. Interested parties may wish to contact NACE for more details.
